I'm having problems making the third party ati drivers work. Have anyone done this successfully? If so, how did you do it?
If I use their installer, it tells me it had errors. Dmesg then reports the errors as :
fglrx: module license 'Proprietary. (C) 2002 - ATI Technologies, Starnberg, GERMANY' taints kernel.
fglrx: Unknown symbol inter_module_unregister
fglrx: Unknown symbol inter_module_get_request
fglrx: Unknown symbol inter_module_put
fglrx: Unknown symbol inter_module_register
I've been googling about for a couple of days, and it seems that inter_module is deprecated, and no longer supported in 2.6. I found a patch for 2.6.12, but that doesnt apply to my installation.
I am running Slackware 10.2, with kernel 2.6.16 compiled to fit my chipsets.
I'm quite new to linux, so detailed explanation would be nice, for educational purpose.
lspci reports my card as 01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc: Unknown device 4a69. At the moment, I'm running with the kernel ati driver, and it's working fine, but I only get 300-400 FPS in glxgears, and direct rendering isn't working.
