KDE neon - CDs on external DVD drive not working, DVDs working

Hi everyone,

I have an external DVD drive that I bought from Aliexpress - details below. I was able to get DVDs working using

https://itsfoss.com/play-dvd-ubuntu-1310/

and then changing the region on the drive using regionset. However, it won't recognise CDs at all. Is there anything I need to do to get CDs playing?

*-cdrom
description: DVD-RAM writer
product: DVD-RAM UJ-850S
vendor: MATSHITA
physical id: 0.0.0
bus info: scsi@2:0.0.0
logical name: /dev/cdrom
logical name: /dev/sr0
version: 1.20
capabilities: removable audio cd-r cd-rw dvd dvd-r dvd-ram
configuration: status=ready
*-medium
physical id: 0
logical name: /dev/cdrom

Thanks for any help.

Can you read CDs that you write? If so, then it is due to DRM by the music companies.

Thanks.

I'd have to find a writable CD somewhere. I can play these CDs on my other laptop's built-in DVD drive, however, so I don't think it's a DRM issue. The CDs don't work on the external drive when tested on any of the laptops I have here, even a Windows laptop. I've never heard of a DVD RW player that can't cater for CDs, but I suspect this one can't. (Even though it shows "capabilities: removable audio cd-r cd-rw dvd dvd-r dvd-ram" above.)
