I'm running Debian Woody with the 2.4.18-bf2.4 kernel, KDE 3.2.3, Canon S800 printer. When I go to the Printing Manager, I get an error message:
Quote:
There was an error loading kdeprint_lpd. The diagnostic is: Library files for 'kdeprint_lpd.la' not found in paths.
|
This error message comes up 3 times as I click OK, then the Printing Manager window does come up, but Add -> Add Printer/Class in greyed out.
Find Files gives me no instances of "kdeprint_lpd" anywhere.
'dmesg' gives me:
Quote:
parport0: PC-style at 0x378 (0x778) [PCSPP,TRISTATE]
parport0: irq 7 detected
parport0: Printer, Canon S800
lp0: using parport0 (polling).

'ls -l /dev/lp0' gives me:
Quote:
crw-rw---- 1 root lp 6, 0 Mar 14 2002 /dev/lp0
|
so the kernel seems to detect the parallel port and printer.
It's not a hardware problem because I'm able to print fine from the Windows XP partition, and from a Knoppix boot.
What need I do to fix this?
Thanks,
Mark
