k5000 driver placement and usage

not sure if this is a software or hardware problem so i opted for this forum, and a search found zero matches so i hope this is the correct place.

have a nvidia k5000 4 port video card that when initially booted, the monitors all showed the same boot up image.

downloaded the driver direct from nvidia for the card that ends in .run

so my question is two part:
a) if this driver is precomiled (no source is offered) direct from nvidia do i just put it somewhere and create a hard link to that place?
b) where is that place to put add in drivers /local or /opt? none of the "important" directories listed in some books seem an appropriate place to put basic system add-in stuff.

thank you

Since the filename ends in "run", I suppose you need to run this file. It's probably a shell script.

when i first downloaded it i tried "run...", bash complained. did not occur to me that it is a script, it is. just put it on a command line and hit enter and away it goes.

thank you
