K3B Change Write Speed

I am trying to burn my movies onto a dvd. The problem I am having is that when I burn them, they freeze on a stand alone DVD player. I have read a few posts in a few other forums that says I should try to burn them at either 2X or 4X rather than the 8X that the media supports so that it will reduce write errors. I try to change the write speed in K3B and it errors and says it can not change the write speed.

Pertinant Info:

Distribution: SuSE 10
DVD Writer: Sony DRU-540A
DVD Firmware: 1.0b
Media: Memorex DVD -R / 8X

Has someone had this problem before?

your burner mite only support 8x dvd-r buring. can it burn dvd+r? i had a problem in widoz, dvd-r neva worked in any of my dvd players, dvd+r works in all. i also think that dvd+r is more spcific for videos. if you can burn them try that.and also i cant member xactly but in yast sumwhere(lol sorry) there mite be a way to change the burn speeds there rather than in k3b.

hope it helps please post back if you get it sorted

My DVD burner is both +/-R. I downloaded and installed NeroLinux and it works fine when I reduce the speed. I would rather use k3b though because Nero keeps giving me a warning about hardware autodetect damons potentially interfering with the burn process.
