Joystick Problem after re-installation of Slackware

Okay, I was having sound problems in Slackware and I kept tinkering with it and eventually I figured out what needs to be done (by everybodies help here of course) and after the re-installation I think I have everything in order. However I now have a new problem, my joystick doesn't work anymore. The first time I installed Slackware (and Red Hat, which was on before Slack) I just did a full install, so I wouldn't mess anything up. But this time around, I did a 'menu' install because I thought I would be able to distinguish the important from the non-neccessary stuff (I needed to not have ALSA so I could get my sound working right), so I used to just have to run
$ modprobe joydev
as root, and everything would work. Now doing that doesn't load my joysticks (at least to the point where they are recognized by ZSNES, StepMania, ePSXe, XMMS, jstest etc.) Althought modprobe joydev IS doing something. Here's my lsmod after running modprobe joydev:
Code:
root@onizuka:bin$ lsmod
Module Size Used by Tainted: P
joydev 5888 0 (unused)
input 3200 0 (autoclean) [joydev]
nvidia 1628576 11 (autoclean)
i810_audio 23720 0
ac97_codec 12296 0 [i810_audio]
soundcore 3332 2 (autoclean) [i810_audio]
usb-ohci 18888 0 (unused)
usbcore 58400 1 [usb-ohci]
8139too 15240 1
mii 2304 0 [8139too]
crc32 2880 0 [8139too]
ohci1394 24200 0 (unused)
ieee1394 42436 0 [ohci1394]
ide-scsi 9424 0
agpgart 39576 3
Now I had an earlier thread, in which I thought modprobe joydev wasn't working, but it turns out my brother just switched the device from "PC" to "GAME" (it can also be used to calibrate guns for games like Time Crisis), causing it to not work. So this is the output of lsmod on my Red Hat 9 install back in the day, where modprobe joydev loaded everything fine.
Code:
[root@localhost root]# lsmod
Module Size Used by Tainted: P
joydev 7296 0
keybdev 2976 0 (unused)
mousedev 5556 1
hid 22244 0 (unused)
input 5856 0 [joydev keybdev mousedev hid]
usb-ohci 21704 0 (unused)
usbcore 79040 1 [hid usb-ohci]
Now I notice I don't have hid. And I'm pretty sure this devices uses (or is it used?) HID, I recall reading on the StepMania forums, that this device has HID or whatnot, so installing drivers isn't neccessary (back when I was on Windows). So I figured I need it. I removed joydev and did modprobe hid then modprobe joydev:
Code:
root@onizuka:bin$ lsmod
Module Size Used by Tainted: P
joydev 5888 0 (unused)
keybdev 1952 0 (unused)
mousedev 4244 0 (unused)
hid 21156 0 (unused)
input 3200 0 (autoclean) [joydev keybdev mousedev hid]
nvidia 1628576 11 (autoclean)
i810_audio 23720 0
ac97_codec 12296 0 [i810_audio]
soundcore 3332 2 (autoclean) [i810_audio]
usb-ohci 18888 0 (unused)
usbcore 58400 1 [hid usb-ohci]
8139too 15240 1
mii 2304 0 [8139too]
crc32 2880 0 [8139too]
ohci1394 24200 0 (unused)
ieee1394 42436 0 [ohci1394]
ide-scsi 9424 0
agpgart 39576 3
Everything is still unused , but I try running ZSNES anyway. It reports that no joysticks are found, however, my lsmod changes a bit and
This:
Code:
joydev 5888 0 (unused)
Changes to this:
Code:
joydev 5888 0
It still doesn't work, but I thought that might be important. So, did I not install something critical for joysticks when I did a menu install of Slackware 9.1? If so what's the package? Sorry for the long message, I just wanted to get everything out that looked as though it might be important.
