jittery sound

Ok the problem is when trying to play music files. Playing with xmms/kaffeine works fine for a while until it starts to be interrupted by some sort of clicking noise. The way to trigger this problem seems to be by changing windows quickly (im guessing it has something to do with CPU load) and then the sound is interrupted for very short intervals a few times a second. Running alsamixer and then closing it before loading xmms/kaffeine has an effect of keeping the sound ok for a bit longer. Im running SuSE9.1 ftp install. The problem could be fixed in a way by only using kaffeine to play audio but after upgrading to KDE 3.3.1 using neither makes any difference.

The hardware is(as reported by alsamixer)
Card: Intel 82801BA-ICH2
Chip: Yamaha YMF753
on a sony vx88 laptop

anyone got any ideas how to get sound working properly??

(have done all updates in YaST, seems to make no difference)

Hmmm... off the top of my head, I'm thinking it might be an IRQ conflict. Maybe a Plug-n-Play BIOS problem.
Maybe.
Good luck...

An update to this problem, after installing SuSE 9.2 the sound is all fine.

Hi
I have the opposit problem. Sound was fine in Susse 8.1 but I have problems with 9.2. If I play DVD's or sound via Audacity I get this intermmitant scratch sound every 2 or 3 seconds. If I play games such as Pingus the sound is fine. Could it be an ALSA problem?

Any ideas much appriciated. Dave
