iTunes wipes linux created files on ipod mini

hi all,

i'm an ipod (but not linux) newbie. i'm running FC2 with latest version (2.6.9-1.6-FC2). i've built the kernel from source and disabled EFI_PARTITION, so i mount, write, read under linux (via USB). the ipod mini (firmware 1.2) is very happy with the linux tools. i've tried both gnupod and gtkpod, and everything gets moved to the ipod, and works as expected.

problem is, when i connect to my XP box, itunes ( wipes the entire drive.

any suggestions?

and the answer to my question is, RTFM

from the iTunes online help:

By default, iTunes is set to update iPod automatically. When you connect your iPod to your computer, iTunes opens, then transfers all selected songs in your library and playlists to your iPod, and erases songs from iPod that aren't in the iTunes music library.
so, you need to manage things manually since using gtkpod and gnupod you have no library.
