Question IT8212 installation on Mandrake 10

I am running Mandrake 10 - Kernel 2.6.3-14, I have a pci ide card (IT8212) giving me 2 extra channels. It works fine under XP but not in Mandrake. In Hardrake it is recognised but not configurable.

I realise i need to recompile the supplied drivers (on CD and of the website) as they are only for 9.1 and 9.2, however I am unsure as to what I need to do.

Can anyone help a new Linux user that wants to leave the dreaded xp behind ?
