Hi everyone,
I am currently working on compiling a new kernel, that includes the driver for the gigaraid driver.

I managed to patch the 2.6.8.1 kernel with the gigaraid patch (I did not use the whole mm4 patch mentioned earlier, only th patch for the gigaraid), and when booting up it recognises all four additional drives I have attached to the raid controller.

I can not fully boot into my system at the moment, there is still something wrong with my xwindows / graphics card.

The biggest problem however is my bootloader (Grub).

The additional discs are called hda, hdb, hdc and hdd. The problem is that the bootloader is looking for the boot folder on hda4, which is now hde4. I changed the entry in the Grub configuration to reflect that, but I probably have to change the device map for Grub too to put it on the right track. I don't want to do that until I can boot properly into the new kernel without the additional drives.

Wish me luck....

A

? I might switch to 2.6 then ?

Hi,

Question is : can someone* testify they re using this as IDE data storage with 3 or more drives attached?

I m still under kernel 2.4.21 where the driver compiles swiftly,
but I ll be glad to switch to 2.6 (hope we get it working there) if that someone* exists and uses 2.6.
//though, i ve found someone running 2.6.x who has the same http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...13#post1271413 8212 problem as I .

I am running Fedora Core 2 Kernel 2.6.8.x Series kernel w/ a Quasi-Fix Driver from Alan Cox from Redhat.com who is developing the Kernel support for this card. It *might* make an *experimental* apperance in Kernel 2.7.0 but don't hold me to that, i chould be out sooner and/or later.

I gave up. I dug through my parts pile and pulled out a promise IDE controller. Problem solved - not the way I'd like it, but solved.

Good News for you guys, I hope.

I'm running FC3 on a Gigababyte mobo with the IT8212 chip.
Like you I was having problems getting to see my 3rd HD, but when my FC3 upgraded to the latest kernel 2.6.9-1.681.FC3.I686 using up2date I could see the drive.

My kernel is running "straight out of the box" I haven't recompiled it, all I did was add a module (as an rpm) to enable me to see my NTFS volumes.

Hope this helps

i couldnt install it with raid.

gibbylinks: yes, with the new kernels it ought to work. problem is suse 9.2 doesnt has the newest kernels. it could help if someone has compiles the drivers. i tried it but get only errors. also i wasnt able to make a kernel update.

compiling itself is no problem. there are enough tutorials out there. even explicitly for this driver. maybe i try it now since suse downloaded a few day ago a kernel update and perhaps it works with that.

i would be very happy if somone came up with a driver..or somthing.. that makes possible for me to install suse on my comp..

ive got suse 9.2 on my old comp now.. and ive tried to compile once more..did the following:

dl/unzip LinuxDriver_it8212_092005-9.zip (www.ite.com.tw)
cd usr/src/linux-2.6.8-24

cp -a /usr/src/linux-2.6.8-24/drivers/scsi/{scsi,hosts,scsi_obsolete,scsi_typedefs}.h /home/pauline/desktop/2_6_x/scsi_module.c

--edit the "KERNEL_SRC=" line in the makefile to poit to my kernel: "KERNEL_SRC= /usr/src/linux"

make

then i "should" have a file called itraid.ko.. but i get errors..as i said im to newbie to get this:

linux:/home/pauline/Desktop/2_6_x # make
make -C /usr/src/linux SUBDIRS=/home/pauline/Desktop/2_6_x modules
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.8-24'

I have 3 motherboards with the ITE chipset. I've gotten it to work on one of them doing the same thing on all three. It is just very very flakey on the 2.6 kernel. and ITE doen't seem to care. I have no experience with it on FC2 or FC3, but my recomendation for anyone who is trying to get it to work under 2.6, don't spend more than a few hours on it. If you can't get it to work in that amount of time then wait for a later kernel release or a new ITE driver.
