It's a good habit freeing/drop cache memory on production server ????

Hi members,

I have servers who contains some programms to feching data from web sites, and most programms are developped in languages,c/c++ .

Some times these processes allocates many parts f memory and that have important effect for performances .

I have droped cache when the memory swap is fully used .The generally reason is to free up ressources.
I agree that it's not a good reason to drop caches because it causes the kernel to look for files on the disk rather than in the cache .

Q: Does a good idea to drop cache and clean up memory on production server ??

Any suggestions are appreciated

Best Regards

What evidence do you have for this ?.
Generally drop_caches is a very poor option. There have been situations where it is appropriate, but not many.
