Odd no one suggested this link yet...
https://www.openprinting.org/printers
But I have to agree with them suggesting HP printers.
As for ink cartridges, remember that if you use original carts from hp, it'll give you warranty on printer even if the warranty on the printer it self has expired.
That is one of the reasons it cost a little more
Edit: re warranty. It is if a cartridge is leaking or otherwise cause damage to the printer.

I have avoided HP printers simply because of cost, plus the cost of replacement cartridges (laser). I haven't used an inkjet printer in years (15+) because lasers are fast and cheap. Brother has dirt cheap cartridges but some of their printers have proprietary binary drivers and are designed only for windows. The open printing link above is a great start.

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8600 MFP -- about 5 years old -- on my home network connected wirelessly.
When I added this desktop (CentOS 7/Cinnamon) to the network, it was able to find and configure the printer. I haven't messed with the scanner yet, tho. It's all point and shoot on the Windows box...
All the iThings can print to it, too.
We don't print much of anything. I just loaded the third set of ink cartridges...yes, they're pricey, about $120, but that's not a lot if you only have to spend it once every couple of years.

Actually, most recent Brother models are supported by Linux drivers, but one should consult their website...

I have gotten my money's worth from three HPs over the years (but I have no interest in using off-brand ink).

If it's inkjet the epson ecotank models have no rivals. No cartridges and cheap bottles of oem refill ink available. All shapes, sizes and prices to match but each worth every penny in the long run. Used one on a job for 8 weeks last year ET-2600 I think. 50+ pages a day personally but wasn't just me using it. Didn't think it was possible. When I first saw it I thought "Inkjet? here we go, gonna be changing cartridges every other day and punching it". Never saw a dud page or refill (not on my 12hr shift anyway). OK it's probably a 2019 and not 2020 printer but the best inkjet I ever used even though wifi setup was a bit more of a pain than some. Reliability and cheap page cost the most important factors.
