Issues with kensington mouse

Ok, this might be a little misplaced but...

I recently installed Red Hat 9 on my mom's laptop (a Satellite 1150) and it works like a dream (except for the AC '97 modem of course). I bought her a Kensington wireless USB mouse, and every time I plug it in to her laptop, it works great for about two minutes (give or take a couple), and then the range on the wireless receiver plugged into the USB port simply dies. You can't really use the mouse beyond half a foot. Is the USB port somehow burning up the wireless receiver? Has anyone else heard of this? I've tried this with two of this kind of mouse with the same results. I plugged the now defective mouse into my laptop, and it has the same range problems, so there's definitely something wrong with the mouse where it was working perfectly until it was plugged in to her laptop. Is the USB port (ports) frying the wireless receiver? Is this possible?

The system is dual boot so I checked under Windows and the same issues are there, so it's not OS specific. Any ideas? I'm thinking about investing in a USB 2.0 PC card so her (third) replacement mouse will work.

Thanks.

Arturo
