Issue with playstation controller

I recently made a playstation parallel converter, and have been having issues getting it to work in linux. When I do a modprobe for it (modprobe gamecon gc=0,7,0,0,0,0) I get the following errors:

/lib/modules/2.4.21-xfs/kernel/drivers/char/joystick/gamecon.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.21-xfs/kernel/drivers/char/joystick/gamecon.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.21-xfs/kernel/drivers/char/joystick/gamecon.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.21-xfs/kernel/drivers/char/joystick/gamecon.o: insmod gamecon failed

I'm not quite sure what the problem is, and any help would be much appreciated.

if it plugs into your parallel port it will not be detected

i remember at school we made our own joysticks from parallel ports

Actually I did end up getting the controller to work throught the parallel port.

Before you load the driver, you need to remove the lp driver
rmmod lp

Then modprobe the way I have detailed above, and it should work. (if you have a ddr pad (kernel 2.6.11 and up) you can replace the 7 with an 8, and that should work)
