ISDN TA help

I am new to Linux (4 days) and to tinkering on a computer (my last programming course involved trying to make triangles with logo in first grade). I have tried to use Yast2 to configure my USB ISDN terminal adapter, but it has not yet worked. I think I have the right init strings - I got them from the manual, but it's in Japanese (which I can't read) and said something about Mac freeware. There wouldn't be different init strings for different OSs would there? I am fairly sure that the problem is somewhere between my computer and the TA, because some lights come on when it tries to dial and those haven't come on yet. Any suggestions would be welcomed. On the off chance that anyone is reading this from Japan, it is an NTT V30Slim TA.

Thanks
