Is Turion Really amd64?
I've looked on Wikipedia, and my cpu is amd64 according to that (as well as other sites). I have the Turion 64 ML-34 in an HP Laptop. But when I try to boot the amd64 editions of various Ubuntu, LinuxMint, i.e., Debian based live distros, they always crash. Anyone else come across this? The system has 1.5GB ram, and 128MB ATI dedicated ram. There's nothing in the BIOS to set or unset. I'd really like to run the amd64 (even if I don't have more than 3GB of ram). Thanks.

the best is to look it at amd: http://support.amd.com/TechDocs/41407.pdf#search=turion (but look for the exact modell). If it started to boot but crashed it is ok, but somehow misconfigured or there is a hw failure or?

Have you tried loading a 32-bit os?
It may be that the model you have is 32-bit. |

It reminds me of the rage pro which I had problems with in wheezy. |

Well, the_penguinator may have jogged my memory and solved the problem. I upgraded the memory a few years ago, and since then, it has had trouble running hot. The two different dimms are differing speeds, though they supposedly run at the speed of the original (older) dimm. I bet that is the problem.
pan64: I downloaded that pdf, but no info there, and since the_penguinator says he/she has the same processor and it works fine, that means there's probably something wrong w/my hardware. EDDY1: Yes, the 32 bit ed. works just fine, so that makes me think it's the memory or possibly and error in the DVD/USB stick that I used to try to load it. Also, the 128 ATI has not been a problem in Linux in the past. Thanks all. |
