Is this Controller-based or a Softmodem?

Would anybody happen to know whether or not this modem is controller-based?

I have read those are the same as winmodems. Stick with external serial modems. I have personally used this one:

It works very well. You may also want to check with a local ISP. I bought a USRobotics for $10.00 once. I had to configure it a bit but after a few days of testing settings, that thing was really nice. Lots of lights too.

Hope that helps.

According to USB terminology it's neither -- it's a "controllerles" or "Winmodem".
Click on their:

Controller-based or controllerless? Find out which is right for you with our interactive lesson.

box/link on the right to see what they mean.

I think this will work:
http://www.usr.com/solutions/modem101.asp

Click through to the 9th screen to see a product chart.
