Is there an identification guide for connector types?
I have some older computers with places for various types of cards and wires to be plugged in. Some of these are on the outside of the computer, but others can be found only once opening the computer up. I cannot identify what these are for. Is there any identification guide, either on-line or in a book, to help people to identify, based on the size and shape, what kind of connector or card can be used there?

I would suggest that you go to the systems manufactures site for documentation showing that systems configuration to identify connectors and types. Most manufacture sites will have support that can provide downloads for system manuals or documentation.
You could go to tomshardware and hopefully find a review for a particular system to find system specifics.
I sometimes use duckduckgo to locate systems specifics by manufacture, model # and sometimes system tag numbers.
Distribution: Lubuntu, Raspbian, Openelec, messing with others.

You don't list where your at. There is a book called Upgrading and Reparing pc's by Scott Mueller, that I found to be wonderful years ago. (haven't looked at one in a long time, since). I found the older versions in my local Libraries and I know there are other books that can help, I just found that one the best at the time.
