Is there a way to change IRQ's?
I have IRQ sharing going on in my laptop. IRQ 11 is as follows:
usb-uhci, ehci-hcd, eth0, Ricoh Co Ltd RL5c476 II, ALi Audio Accelerator .
The problem is that when I play sounds and music it skips and jumps. I think it might be a IRQ problem. Is there a way I can move some of the IRQ's? I can not do it from the Bios, there is no option there. Thanks

i think that in your modules.conf file you can append to the end of a line for the device you wanna change...something like this for example, say your conf file says this:
alias sound-slot-0 audigy
you could add this:
alias sound-slot-0 audigy irq=NUMBER
i am almost positive thats how its done, if you'd like you can wait for a follow up post to confirm this

I tried what you showed and no luck. The IRQ's did not change. It was worth a try. Thanks

I had the same problem
try that:
go to the "control centre" - "Sound"- "sound system" -
"sound in-/output"
there you'll see a slider titled "audio buffer size"
move it to the left (i moved it fully left), then it should be better.
by the way: i'm using the german version of the mandrake 9. 1 distribution so some of my ".." marked words may be different on your system.
bye
D.

The idea with the modules.conf was quite sensible...
Try
alias sound <your soundcard module>
options <your soundcard module> irq=<your pick of IRQ>
HIH

You also might want to try diaabling plug and play in the motherboard BIOS.

No luck Tinkster. Below is what it looks like.
probeall scsi_hostadapter ide-scsi
probeall usb-interface usb-uhci ehci-hcd
alias eth0 8139too
options eth0 8139too trident irq=4
alias sound-slot-0 trident
options sound-slot-0 trident irq=5
Michaelk:

I did that with no luck. Just so I got this right, all I have to do is reboot for the changes to take place. Is that right? What I have been doing is making the chages as ROOT then rebooting.
