In general some people spend money on secrets and think it's clever to sell those secrets.

In the deepest sense I actually agree with Stallman-type politics because the bigger picture is obvious: If everyone kept secrets the whole technological world stagnates.

Though it is obvious that some people see the small picture of their investment: "I spent money on secrets, I will lose them if I reveal them."

Perhaps the biggest answer is to invest on projects that promote ideas similar to 'Earth movements': "If you do not open the technological world, it will stagnate and die under its Global Warming of Closed Source".
