Question Is the SH-S183L supported in Linux?

I am considering a SATA DVD drive to avoid using any PATA devices. I am looking at a Samsung 18x DVD writer (SH-S183L), but I have googled and searched LQ to find out if it's supported in Linux, but my searches have been fruitless. Can anyone tell me if it's supported? Or direct me to somewhere that might have this information? Thanks.

It is not so much the drive as the sata controller that needs to be supported.

I see what you mean about the google search - many promising hits turn out no longer to have the expected information. I have seen some speculation that this is a bridged drive rather than a true SATA drive.
