Is printing in regional language on dot matrix printers supported by debian?

Hello, I am considering porting an application onto linux -mainly raspberry pi running debian. I need to print in regional languages (kannada, tamil etc). My understanding is that the printer driver will send out a bit pattern for fonts not directly supposted by the printer.

I know windows printer drivers can handle regional languages but have no idea if linux printer drivers do the same? I'm likelky to use an epson lx300+ dotratrix printer.

Many thanks,
nandy

If the correct driver is installed, a printer on a Linux system can print any script (fount) installed on the system. If Tamil, for example, is installed as one of the locales, the proper driver is installed and the printer configured, the printer will be able to print Tamil.

So the drivers do support any font?

Randicus, many thanks so I will take it that linux print drivers too can handle any font installed on the system. I just could not figure out if that was the case but I probably did not look well enough.

tks,
nandy
