Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question Is laptop RAM interchangeable?

I've got an old notebook I'm trying to upgrade the RAM for. I've found a site offering $68 for 256 MB RAM. But, I was wondering, do I have to buy RAM made specifically for the type of note book I have, i.e. a Fujitsu FMV Biblio NE 33E? Is laptop RAM like RAM for a larger computer, i.e. if I know I need PC 133Mhz with x pins I can use any generic PC 133Mhz RAM with x pins? I'm asking because I want to look for a better deal (i.e. ebay) or from a reputable company. But if I need to order specific parts, I'm basically stuck.

Many thanks in advance!

Depends on your laptop (I'm not familiar with that model,) but in general yes, you can use generic memory. Most laptops made in the last 5 years or so use SO-DIMMs which come in a compact 144-pin size to save space but use standard speeds like PC133 (SDRAM) or PC2700 (DDR) just like the memory in a regular mobo.

If the info on the site you linked to is correct and your laptop accepts an SO-DIMM, I'm pretty sure a celery 333 uses PC66 memory. The PII-350 was the slowest (and cheapest) Intel CPU to use a 100Mhz front side bus. I'm sure of that since I bought one specifically for that reason. In fact, I'm still using that chip to run my Debian box today. Anyway, you might want to check Fujitsu's site to verify the specs before buying anything. A quick eBay search turned up this auction though: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3486704084
