I am having some basic problem with Linux Red hat version 9 i can't get my screen to go to 1024 x 768


and i am a totally newbie so I need step by step instruction on how to install the driver

To get your screen to go to 1024x768 (my new year's resolution!), as root, go into xf86config in a text editor and scroll down until you see the screen resolutions. Add "1024x768" to the front of the line - the line should now read "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480". Restart X and you will now be able to use it.

I have never had a problem with nvidia drivers, just read and understand the instructions on the website.

if your using the 2.4 kernel, then no problem at all.
to get it to run on the 2.6 kernel, apply patches from http://minion.de/

Many thanks to XavierP you are the guru of linux i was going to install the drivers but something just told me don't and you just confirm it for me , what you did my friend was directed me to the right direction. as i scroll down this xf86config file i discover that my monitor was configure so it only goes up to 800 x 600 at 60mhz all i did was change this to 1200 x 700 in the display planel and this worked



i don't play 3D games so i am not that brother about 3D side of things but soon i will need to install the correct drivers.

althought it states in the panel that i have the correct drivers. Once again many thanks

Glad to hear you got it working. As far as it 'knowing' your card, I believe it picks that sort of info off the card itself but doesn't actually do much with the info.
