is celeron 500 an i686 ? if so how to move from i386 to i686
hi,
my box is a celeron 500. is it an i386 or i686? i use redhat 9. it was written 'bla bla i386' on the setup cd. when my box is coming up it says sth like 'kernel 2.4... on a i686 shrike'. assuming it is a i686, how to move from i386 to i686? is it possible only changing the kernel without disturbing the applications on it? and how of course? other than root '/' i have a seperate partition for /boot and /usr. a friend of mine said, 'dont bother what is written on cd. setup would automatically detect your cpu, and take the proper action' but this is not the case i guess. a final note, i have 512 mbytes of ram but x works significantly slow on my box. thx r a f t |
x works fine on my intel pentium 3 prossesor 634 MHz clocked dont know what overclocked is
300 mb ram |
