before i send my old computer to the recyclers, I am wondering if should pull out my graphics card?

Ugh, I wish companies wouldn't give their products such horrible names! For that reason alone, I would say scrap it along with your computer.
As far as the technical aspects go, although the card is still supported by the open source Radeon driver, newer software and web content will most likely not run very well, if at all, with this graphics chip.

Agreed. I remember having one of those chips when they were brand new, and didn't particularly like it when it was brand new (my other pc at the time had an 8500) as it was an updated version of an older chipset, not based on the flagship 8500, and even THEN was missing a lot of features...
