Ipod won't work with Windows through vitualbox

I am using Ubuntu 7.10 and have virtualbox 1.5.4 installed. I have configured vitualbox to work with usb devices and have installed windows XP as a virtual machine. When I attach my ipod (it's a second gen 4GB nano) windows recognizes it as an ipod and says it's installing it. Then, about half a minute later it says that it has failed to install the new hardware. Itunes does not recognize that an ipod has been attached. Is there anyway I can configure it to recognize my ipod? any help is appreciated.

I had the exact same problem trying to format an iPod Nano in Virtualbox. The only thing was, I only had the problem with the 4gig 2nd gen Nano. I formatted a 5.5gen 60gig iPod just fine under Virtualbox, but as soon as I tried to format the Nano, it hung for a while then gave me an error.
