ipod video alternative
I'm in the market for something along the lines of an ipod video. Are there any that play nice with Linux?

I'm not looking for a media player to run linux on. I'm looking for one that will interact with the linux desktop with minimal problems.

there are many websites that detail how to run an iPod under linux. Some people have real issues, for others it works like a charm.
Are you major considerations cost, or to run under linux easily?
um. there was this one gadget mentioned by oneandoneis2, but I can't seem to track it down on his blog ( http://geekblog.oneandoneis2.org)

I used my iPod with no dramas at all for a long time, couldn't go wrong if you tried. These days I'm running Rockbox on it though so it's just a case of mounting the volume and copying MP3s to it, no iTunesDB necessary. There is no way you could ask for something easier than that.

Mostly just to run easily under linux. I know there are some fairly easy ways to do ipods, but I want something that I don't have to have some workaround to use.

What workarounds are involved with an iPod? Gtkpod is a bolt in replacement of iTunes for copying files.

Perhaps "workaround" was the wrong word. If I'm not mistaken, I can't use Gtkpod on my computer at home, then go over to my brother's place and plug it into itunes without the database getting screwed up. That's what I meant.

As long as you set iTunes to "manage my music manually" the database will be fine.
....Otherwise whatever is in the iTunes collection is what you will get - even if there is nothing
I use both amarok and gtkpod without problems.
