iPod Nano only shows 'Do not disconnect'

I've searched the forums but could not find anything that answered this...

As soon as I connect my iPod Nano, all I see on the display is 'Do not disconnect'. Other posts have suggesting solving it by using eject rather than unmount, this does not work for me. Everything else seems to work fine, I can use gtkpod and all that. I'm using Mandrake 10.2, and I even see an icon saying Apple iPod on the desktop from where I can disconnect, but nothing makes it go away. And someting about always having to disconnect when it says not to makes me uneasy.

Any suggestions?

usually, "eject sda" works for me at the command line. but i have a gen4 ipod.

Try ejecting as root. In ubuntu I can't get my ipod to disconnect properly without typing

sudo eject /media/ipod

I don't think Mandriva has sudo so you'll have to type something like

su
<enter password>
eject <wherever your ipod is mounted>

On a side note, don't disconnect your ipod with it still saying do not disconnect. It seemed to work fine for me until one time I dosconnected and it blasted my ipod's files and I had to a complete reinstall.

Good luck

If the iPod is unmounted (see if it's listed in 'df' to make sure) then it's quite safe to disconnect, regardless of what the screen says.

I can confirm ilikejam's statement. I have a 20gb ipod, and it has been perfectly safe to disconnect it after it's been properly unmounted.
