iPod as Hard Drive Doesn't Work
Before I switched to Suse 9.1, I used Windows, and used the iPod to save all my good stuff inside. Now when I want to put my stuff back inside, it says it can't read my iPod. What the heck's going on here?

Here 's how to replace the hd:
1. lay the ipod on its front , slide the small flat-head screwdriver in the seam. 2. Push the concealed clip, then continue your way unclockwisely. 3. Take the hd out of the dock 4. Peel off the rubber and put the hd writing side down on the desk |
that doesn't sound right... delpheno- wait for another expert to post...

Yeah no crap.
I think it's because I'm not an administrator level. It doesn't make sense 'cause I'm the only one using this, and when I want to modify my computer, it won't let me 'cause someone else is the admin. Real stupid. |
Google for "linux + ipod" and you should find some really good stuff. Sorry- I just saw this post as I was surfing and jumped in to prevent some mischief. I don't own an ipod nor do I have Suse.
That said, I do have some general linux knowledge that might help. the command su lets you become root (administrator) at the commandline (you need the password) so you can do administrative things- Linux is set up this way to protect you and your system. (why you? well, your mental health is at stake if you do something stupid as root and you kill the system... :D ) google for permissions + linux as well as for chmod. that should get you on your way. hope this helps. titanium_geek |

Here's pretty good tutorial on using the ipod as a data storage unit

Damn, jeez, Linux is so frickin' confusing!
Look, don't worry about the iPod thing. If anything, tell me WHERE I can type the "command" stuff. http://www.linuxforums.org/tutorials...ial-19957.html Look here, where the HELL do I type the code? And can someone run me step by step how the HELL I can install FireFox. Thank you. |
Delpheno - sorry that you are frustrated. Several comments:
1. If you want to get to the command line interface, and assuming that you're using KDE, just click on the icon that looks like a monitor with a shell in front of it. That will open up a terminal session, and you'll be at the command line. 2. Please stay on topic. Mixing a variety of topics into a single thread makes it difficult to follow. 3. To install Firefox, just follow the official instructions Good luck with things |
And also, please don't double post. Please continue here
