iomega 120GB HDD USB Drive

I've searched around and even contacted iomega tech support (who were real pricks actually) and can't find any information on how to get this drive working on linux. I really really want to install Linux on my newest workstation, but I need to get this drive working. Any help is appreciated!

To be more specific, I am running RedHat Linux 8.0 with USB 1.0 ports.

Try booting Linux with the drive not attached to the computer. Once booted and logged in, plug in the drive. Check the output of dmesg and see if it's noticed anything, or run usbview and keep an eye on it. Then, just to make sure it's recognised and working nicely, run cdrecord -scanbus and look for something about removable storage. If you've got this far, then great! Check /dev for an entry like /dev/sda and preferable /dev/sda1. If you've got one of these, then you can mount it with (as root) mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/usbdrive (make sure the directory /mnt/usbdrive is made first with mkdir /mnt/usbdrive as root). You should then be able to access the drive.

If you do not have /dev/sda1 but you do have /dev/sda then, as root, type fdisk -l /dev/sda and check to see if the drive has any partitions.

thanks for the quick reply. That usbview utility is very helpful!

the drive shows up in the utility, but when I try to mount /dev/sda1 it tells me it is not a valid block device. Here is the spec info from the devices file:

ok, I got the drive working after insmoding some of the modules mentioned in:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=78139

I didn't recompile the kernel - I'll do that later...My next question would be how to setup a desktop icon that allows me to mount/unmount the drive (automounting seems too complex) with just a right lick on the icon similar to how the CD-ROM icon is. Any suggestions?
