invisible usb tv tuner with no usbid

I have this USB TV Tuner that is not recognized at all when I plug it in. The vendor is misidentified as "syntek" when it should be either "sabrent" (according to the tiger direct) or "auvitek" (according to windows) and there is no product id.

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 05e1:0400 Syntek Semiconductor Co., Ltd
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

I'm not getting any help on the linuxtv mailing list. I have no clue which step to take next to get this thing playing TV. Is it a requirement to have the USB system completely recognize a product to work with a kernel module? Or can I force a module to work with an arbitrary usb device? modprobing every module from v4l-dvb development tree does not recognized the device.

Modules will be automatically loaded (on recent distros anyway) based on the proper usb IDs of the device. These ids are theoretically unique per hardware design. If no module is automatically loaded, it is likely that no driver takes responsibility for the particular vendor/device id pair present on your device.

kernel, module, tuner, tv, unrecognized, usb
