Internal speakers not workin with Debian Lenny on Vostro 1500 with Sigmatel STAC 9205

I'm having trouble getting the sound to work on my Vostro 1500. I downloaded, compiled and installed the latest alsa (1.0.15) as well as the latest kernel ( (in that order). On gnome, I am able to play back sound using external speakers or headphones, but the internal speakers do not work. On KDE, I get no sound at all unless I start JACK and change the kde sound system to use that rather than straight alsa - then I get sound on my external speakers, but it is extremely garbled and choppy. As mentioned in the title, I am running Debian Lenny with all updates installed as of 10/29.
I also ran the script - here is the output it generated: Please let me know if any other information is needed.

audio, debian, dell
