Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Post Intellimouse questions again?

Alright so I have Slackware 8.1 and a new mouse, I have a 'Microshaft' intellimouse I got the wheel to work by configuring the XF86Config file but can not figure out how to program the two side buttos. I would like to make them the back and forward button when browsing the internet if that's possible. Is it possible I have limited knowledge so I neeed to be pointed in the right direction.

Thanks

change :

Option "Buttons" "5"

to
Option "Buttons" "7"

and change

Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

to
Option "ZAxisMapping" "6 7"

Should work. Let me know if it doesn't.
Because up and down count as buttons, and you have extra ones.

Ok I tried that and therre is no change I can still use my mouse-wheel but my other still buttons still don't do anything. Do I have to tell it what the buttons are supposed to do somewhere what is the syntax for that?

Read the thread I posted you a link to. There is a full discussion of how to map the buttons, now that they are recognized.

Hope that doesn't sound rude, but there is more data there than a simple repeat could cover.
