Intel SSD – Series 30/311 PCIe – Questions
Both these SSD's are available in a compact size. Intel labels the small size, mSATA, and indicates it uses a PCIe mini-connector. These seem to be designed for small all-in-one systems and not desk top PC's. However, there are significant advantages to having the hard drive connected to the PCIe bus. See recent test by Tom's Hardware, http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...-ssd,2952.html .
A reference to Intel's design can be found on their website: http://www.intel.com/design/flash/nand/index.htm , down the right-hand side of the page. I have to assume that the Intel series 310/311 are not meant to be plugged into a motherboard PCIe slot, because there is no discussion of the possibilities. However, it seems like a grand idea. Are there software issues, particularly Linux OS issues, or is this something we can look forward to from Intel in the future? Ignorance is a terrible thing. Would someone pour some daylight on this issue for me? Thanks in Advance: T L On the Wet Coast |
