Hello all,

Using Ubuntu 10.04 on an office laptop Dell Inspiron N5010.
It has got Intel HD audio which does not work.
Here is lspci -v
Code:

	Subsystem: Dell Device 0447
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 32
	Memory at fbd00000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
	Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel
	Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel
Here is aplay -l
Code:
aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: HDA Generic [HDA Generic]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
The sound does not work at all. If anyone has had any issues like this before? I thought intel to work out of box and it has so far. I dont know why this issue with sound.

Hi Chaitanya,
I had this issue once - running 'aumix' and pushing the mixer bar higher made the sound work alright. Then ofcourse you run 'alsamixer' and push the volume as high as possible.
If you are logging in the gui then right click on the speaker icon and you will find all the previously mentioned settings in a nice gui enviorment.
But first make sure that the physical connections are ok. Try playing music with a live medium if possible.
I think this issue is because of migration from oss to alsa to pulseaudio (may have missed something in between).
Hope this helps.

Now the issue is bit different. I have the same hardware but an upgrade to Maverick Meerkat 10.10. Sound now works with speakers but it does not work with headphone jacks plugged in. The laptop speakers get muted when I plug in the headphones but theres no sound at all. Also, I have noticed that when using skype, the built in camera works fine, but not the sound. There is no way I can have skype calls with headphones which I need to do oftenly for work. And everything works fine with windows.. Grrr...
