Oh great, it still doesn't work. When it boots up I get a message that says:
Error loading 536ep
Also, when computing module dependancys it says unresolved symbols found in both the 536epcore.o and 536ep.o modules. Can anyone help me?
(Redhat 9, Kernel 2.4.20-8)

To: Lone Wolf 'Oh great, it still doesn't work.'

Make sure you know EXACTLY what modem you have and go to: http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/Intel/ for the drivers. Be real patient at configuring the ports (the default probably won't work.) Then when and if you do get it to work, you'll have to put up with mediocre performance through out this $12.00 modem's life span...

Or, you can buy a hardware modem and not have to deal with any of the above!

Here is a good one currently at $2.00 (bid in the last 10 seconds...)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=14920

Or conduct your own search on eBay for 'external modems'

Actually I got it working - I was using the wrong driver. And I actualyl get really good performance out of this modem! And seeing as I'm 13 and I just spent all my money on a new motherboard + processor I'm not in the market for a new modem.

Non hardware modems

Very glad you are happy with your modem’s performance. If you don't run more than 3 applications at once and are perfectly satisfied with significantly and constantly higher CPU temperatures (better cooling helps,) unavailability to operate higher resource functions while on line confusion on why some downloads don't seem to work and early processor demise you will continue to be. As for us, both we and our customers ride their computers pretty hard and would prefer making a decision to upgrade CPUs when we want to, instead of when we have to.

damn you ebay!!!! I bought this useless heap of s*** off ebay as it was advertised by pretty much everyone as a hardware modem (including pc shops). I assumed they knew what they were doing being hardware vendors and all so didn't ask what the exact chipset was . I've had this working in SuSE 8.2 without a hitch (well, working anyhow, I'll just ignore the dropped connections etc. for now) but I can't get this darn thing to work in Mandrake.

The driver installs fine and kppp dials up fine, I connect at thirty something kbits and then sweet f*** all happens. I'm not running any other apps and I'm sure my Athlon is more than capable of handling the load imposed by this crappy modem, has anyone else had this experience? Any ideas how to fix it?

Hi all, I 'am new here, and I read your advices, but I didn't get to fix it,
this is my problem, my modem is MD568D-L-B (Red hat 9.0), I got the driver in http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/Intel/, it's Intel-536ep-453-R80.tgz but, when I want to compile , I had this errors
$make clean
...............
$ make 536
Module precompile check
Current running kernel is: 2.4.20-8
/lib/modules... autoconf.h does not exist
please install kernel source
make:*** [check] Error 1

$ make install
bash 536ep-inst
running kernel 2.4.20-8
installing hamregistry, used for persistant storage
installing 536ep module
installing 536ep core module
redhat hamboot rc2.d and rc3.d scripts
starting module and utilities
error loading 536epcore
done

I was looking for the archive autoconf.h in the directory the /lib/modules/$VERLINUX/include/linux/autoconf.h but it isn't here, if somebody had the same problem and the solution, please post me about that, I need your hep you , thansk, I'll be waiting.
