Intel ICH6 Sound Problem

I am running Ubuntu Dapper Drake.

I am using the 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) AC'97 Audio sound card.

I am using an Acer Aspire 1691 WLCi laptop.

I get very poor output of bass when playing music/podcasts. The bass sounds muffled and crackly. I did not have this problem when I ran WinXP.

Any solutions?

What does 'cat /proc/asound/version' prints out. If it is not 1.0.11, you should try to upgrade. Then test again. Also try muting CD-ROM, Line in, Mic.
