Intel GMA 4500M - State of the driver?

Hello everyone! I'm considering buying a laptop with a gma 4500m integrated graphics card. I've heard both good, bad and neutral about this card in relation to Linux performance. Mostly bad and neutral. But I can't find anything real up-to-date and I'm just confused in general. Is this a bad card to get and should it be avoided? Or will the Linux support improve to Intel's previous standards?

I know it is working in Ubuntu 8.10 out of the box..

If you are just looking for basic graphics and 3D it should be fine, if you plan to play 3D Games on the laptop then you might want to look for something better. If you can get a laptop with nVidia or ATI then you won't have to worry so much about performance issues.
