Intel 875P motherboards + kernel 2.6

I checked the hardware database, but unfortunately couldnīt find anything related to it, but since itīs a fairly common motherboard chipset someone here must be running it I will be running 2.6 kernels only.

1.) I donīt really about integrated sound since Iīm getting a soundcard but anyone know which module the gigabit ethernet uses? (preferably the one in the reference board 875P "bonanza")

2.) IDE harddrives propably work just fine, but what about S-ATA drives?

3.) I havenīt decided which 875P motherboard Iīll get yet... Any good / bad experiences with certain 875P based motherboards? (asus P4C800 etc)

Thanks

1. The sound works with the ALSA snd-intel8x0 module. The gigabit Ethernet on 875 motherboards use the e1000 module, referred to in kernel configuration as "Intel(R) PRO/1000 Gigabit Ethernet support".

2. SATA on the ICH5 controller works pretty well using Jerry Garzik's libata drivers. If you use these drivers, the disks will be referred to as SCSI disks (first SATA disk referred to as /dev/sda and so on) since libata uses the SCSI layer. Please note that even if you get a 875P motherboard with "SATA RAID" be aware that this is not true hardware RAID and you're probably better off using software RAID if RAID is what you want.

great, thanks for the reply. Iīm propably getting a ide dma 100 drive just to be sure that it works, since from what Iīve read the speed difference between S-ATA and IDE dma 100 with 8mb cache drives isnīt really that big.
