intel 5100 wlan slackware

Hello. I just installed slackware 64 13 on my hp hdt16. It has an intel wifi link 5100 wlan adapter. It seems to be natively compatible, but i cannot for the life of me get it to work. I have been trying to configure it with ifconfig and iwconfig, but when i issue dhcpcd wlan0 it times out. If I do iwlist scan it shows all the wireless networks around me. Any ideas?
