installing zoom pci modem

I dual boot win 98 and redhat 9 with a zoom internal PCI HCF modem (conexant chipset). I installed the driver, a .rpm file, with no problems. When I look in /dev/ttySHCF0 or /dev/modem device they don't exist (I think that is where it should be). I did the Internet configuration wizard and I only got a choice of a generic modem. After setting up my isp account and selecting "activate" to connect, the system just hangs for a long time and then nothing happens. Also, on win 98 the modem is on COM5 could this be a problem?

Any suggestions?

Hi,

You have a winmodem. Com5 is the com port used for winmodems because it is a fabricated port which is software driven. It doesn't actually exist. So, in reference, it would be /dev/ttyS04 which = com5. Give that a shot and see if it automagically works.
