Installing USB wlan adapter
 

I downloaded a driver for my wireless USB adapter. I copied the files to the correct directory (the readme specified it). How do I use the driver/hardware for internet access?

Distro and USB Adapter model and version would help us out... How did you install the drivers? ndiswrapper?

Usually you use iwlist scan to find accesspoints and iwconfig to config your wlan0...

iwconfig wlan0

iwconfig wlan0 ap(ap means accesspoint) <ap> that should connect you

Try iwlist wlan0 up
