Installing sound...

Ok, here we go. I just got a copy of Red Hat 8. The Installation went great, and it is up and running, except for 2 things.

1) My Modem doesn't work with Red Hat
2) I have no Sound

Now the modem thing, I know what is wrong. It just won't work with linux. But the sound...thats a diffrent story.

After the installation, it said that it had detected a sound device and had installed it. It wanted me to play a sample sound, but nothing was to be heard. I am guessing this is a driver issue. I went to Realtek's web site (the people who make the sound device on my computer) and downloaded the device driver for it. But I have no Idea on how to install it. It has a readme file with it, but I can't make any scence of it what so ever. Here is the Readme.txt file for the driver...

Installation:
For driver installation, please follow below steps.

Step 1. unzip source code
tar xfvj alcsound.tar.bz2

Step 2. Turn on sound support (soundcore module, default turn on)

Step 3. Complied source code
a. ./configure
b. make
c. make install
d. ./snddevices

Step 4. Edit your /etc/modules.conf or conf.modules depending on the distribution
(Please refer to the attached modules.conf)

Step 5. reboot your machine

Yes... so go do exactly what the file tells you to.
Type all those commands into a terminal.
