Angry installing pctel pct789 modem

have just installed rh 8.0 and got everything working but the pctel modem. i have actually gotten it to work in 7.0 but to no avail here.
i downloaded pctel-0.9.6.tar and have been reading and following many of the posts but still no modem. i typed ./configure --with-hal=pct789 and gave this error
Configure:error:cannot find sources(src/ptserial/ptserial-2.4.7.c)in . or ..
i hope this is so simple i look stupid!!
