Installing on a usb hard drive?

I would love to install linux on a USB hard drive since my computer is for school, and last time I attempted freeBSD I ended up with a fresh format. Is there any way to install linux on a usb hard drive?

Have a look at http://linuxmobile.sourceforge.net/

Even though its for USB thumbdrives (pendrives, cigar drives, etc) it should work with your USB hard drive.

You should be able to plug in the drive and install... But boot will be a problem...
