Installing new wireless card -- need background info.

Ok, so i must admit that even though i've used Linux now for several years, i'm still more used to Windows than Linux.

I've got a simple question on how to install my wireless card. It's a DLink DWL520+ and I'm running a non-SMP, Redhat FC2 installation for a MythTV setup on 2.6.8.x kernel.

I'm pretty sure i can setup the wireless networking part with the iwconfig settings for the SSID and WEP keys. Before i even get to this part though, i need the system to recognize the card and get the drivers installed (the KDE network config tool or 'ifconfig' don't even recognize the card to activate it)

WHAT I REALLY NEED TO KNOW IS....

How do i get the device to be recognized with Linux? I know with windows you use the device manager and load the appropriated drivers there. What is the 'equivalent' with RedHat FC2 that i can use? Kudzu did not recognize the card, however when i do an 'lspci' it shows the card there.

Do i need to load this as a module? If so, does it just entail a 'modprobe' of the *.o file and then load it in /etc/rc.d/init scripts so it loads each time?

I may be confusing the question more with my random nuggets of partial knowledge of Linux, but i'm trying.... Please don't let my little knowledge confuse the issue.

I really just need to understand how to perform this familiar task (that i'm used to in Windows) on a Linux system. There's no Device Manager in FC2... :-)

thanks in advance!

acx100.sourceforge.net

or...

ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net

Its an evil little card really, Texas Instruments TI acx100 chipset, TI was never very forthcoming about specs so the native driver is a blackbox job, peek and poke guesswork. If you want a different card, I would have a number of suggestions.

Cheers

I had a similar card using the ACX100 chipset and it worked fine with the latest versions of the driver. Get the driver from CVS! The packages are incredibly outdated (or at least used to be).

I just loaded Fedora Core 2 on a Fujitsu N3010 which has a Broadcom BCM94306 adapter (I'm pretty certain it uses the same chipset as the Dlink) and it won't even recognize the card. I'm using ndiswrapper-0.11, but instead of "hardware present''', I get 'invalid driver'. Any thoughts?

Never mind the previous post. I neglected to extract layout.bin from the driver disk.
