installing new video card

I'm installing a new video card. Should I configure my xf86Config before shutting down and installing the new hardware, or after? basically, what is the proper order to do things (if there is one)?

lordzoltar; not savvy with xf86, but most often the os will recognize new devices installed. advice read what ever necessary on xf86 to accept new device. from basic knowledge xf86 is an app or program within the os. so unless device needs tweeking to operate with xf86 is where reading for more info enhances u ablilty to utilize device.

mugstar is correct. You don't want to try to configure xf86config for a "future" card because that won't work with your current card and will likely lead to problems. Shutdown, power down, switch cards, reboot, then reconfig. Good luck with the project -- J.W.
