Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Installing MS Intellimouse Explorer

Hi Guys,
I have just bought a new mouse for my main machine so my Linux box gets the hand me down so to speak.

I fired up Linux to find the mouse cursor just sits there despite it looking as though it's all happy (the red light is on under the mouse).

The mouse is a MS Intellimouse Explorer USB Optical mouse, I can put it to PS/2 if USB is going to be painful but I would be interested in knowing how to get the mouse working. I have read numerous posts on here regarding the mouse but they were mainly related to getting the other buttons functioning.

I am limited in terms of what I can do in the GUI with no mouse, I can get the Control center up but can't get to hardware to detect it or set it up. I was thinking there would be a command line command which will do the trick.

I am running Mandrake 9.0, if I failed to mention something I am sure someone will kindly remind me or request it.

As like every other question I have had any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Cheers
Darren

Did you try waiting till the computer is all loaded up to plug the mouse in? Or just starting up with it connected.

Ok the problem has been rectified

I ran mousedrake from the console, selected the appropriate mouse, rebooted the box and it is now working.
