Question Installing Modem onRedHat 8.0


Hi,
I have a Motorola SM 56 PCI data/Fax Modem. Ihave a system with Dual booting Windows2000 Pro and Linux Red hat 8.0(just upgraded). The modem installs perfectly with Win 2K. But Inlinux it is not even detected. I have the rpm downloaded. But could not install it in Linux. I'm New to Linux. So someboy pls explain me the steps.

u can
just folllow the commands logged in as root

rpm -ivh kernel 2.4.2***.rpm --force
(this is ur 2.4.2 kernel rpm)

now that u hav ethe kernel in place..

u must edit ur grub
for that edit /etc/grub.conf

u can easily edit grub by folloewing the same format given there

btw u dont need initrd line u can comment it off

after that boot in with the 2.4.2 kernel & install the drivers

everything will work perfectly
